WASHINGTON—A handful of NFL players joined in to participate in the First Family’s 134th annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
The Obamas hosted more than 35,000 people on the South Lawn of their famous residence for games, stories and a tradition that predates everyone who attended: the time-honored egg roll on the Lawn.
Among the attendees were active players Brian Orakpo, Antwaan Randle-El, Lorenzo Alexander and Derrick Dockery and former player Qadry Ismail. The players and their families volunteered their time as part of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
With this year’s theme of “Let’s Go, Let’s Play, Let’s Move,” children visiting the White House participated in physical activities and an obstacle course. President Obama even played a little basketball and tennis during the festivities on a pleasant day in the nation’s capital.
Earlier Monday, Ismail tweeted his excitement by posting: “The Ismails hanging out at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. #WhiteHouse”
On Easter Sunday, Alexander, the veteran Redskin, greeted his followers with a tweet that said: “Good Morning! Happy Easter! Be Joyful because He has Risen!”
While the current Redskins, Orakpo and Alexander, wore their respective Washington jerseys, Randle El donned his old Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and Dockery elected to go with a polo shirt. Each player wore jeans for the casual outdoor event and posed for photos with each other and with First Lady Michelle Obama.
Randle El encouraged everyone to support America’s national parks, pointing out that the South Lawn of the White House is a certified national park itself.
Following the event, Ismail again took to Twitter to update his fans on his experience at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
“Had a blast with my family at the White House! Even met the First Lady!” he tweeted.
