The running back who broke Barry Sanders’ NCAA career touchdowns record has been selected by the Denver Broncos. Wisconsin’s Montee Ball had 77 scores and 5,140 yards in his career as a Wisconsin Badger.
Ball had to wait through the first round and late into the second he was taken 58th overall.
The former Badger had to watch North Carolina’s Giovanni Bernard and Michigan State’s Le’Veon Bell before hearing his name called but joins a dynamic offense including Peyton Manning, Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas, and Ryan Clady. However he joins a crowded backfield that has Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno, and Lance Ball.
One of the knocks coming against Ball was that he had too much tread on his tires — a criticism that also followed Ray Rice on draft day. Like Ball, Rice fell to the second round and was taken with the 55th pick in the 2008 draft.
