Local legend Mark Ingram returned to Alabama to visit the cities of Tuscaloosa, Holt and Alberta City as part of the “FEMA for a Day” initiative.
Ingram, a rookie running back drafted by the New Orleans Saints, won the Heisman Trophy as college football’s top player while starring for the University of Alabama. His willingness to aid the victims of recent tornadoes in Alabama befits his civic-minded approach to be much more than just a football player.
Ingram’s work with FEMA is in conjunction with the NFL Players Association, which also partnered with several NFL players to visit Joplin, Mo., a city devastated by twisters affecting area residents and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. The NFLPA continues to support NFL fans and all persons impacted by the tornadoes.
FEMA will filmed a PSA featuring Ingram at the University of Alabama and visited Holt Elementary School, a disaster recovery center in the area. Among the other stops included in Ingram’s day of service is a visit to a local church in Tuscaloosa.
The native of Flint, Mich. feels a special connection to Alabama residents and has said he relishes the chance to give back to an area in need of any contributions during its recovery.
