Recap

The New Orleans Saints blew out the New York Giants on Monday night by a score of 49-24 behind 577 total yards of offense. Quarterback Drew Brees threw four touchdowns and rushed for one more. His 363 passing yards gives him 27 career games of passing for more than 350 yards, tying Dan Marino’s record. The three-headed attack of Ingram, Thomas, and Sproles combined for 197 rushing yards on 29 carries. Jimmy Graham led New Orleans’ receivers with 84 yards and two touchdowns.

The Giants offense did well, albeit the unit was playing from behind virtually the whole game. Eli Manning completed 33 of 47 passes and threw for 406 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The defense simply did not show up tonight. Not only did the Giants produce zero sacks, they were rarely close.

The Saints host Detroit next Sunday night, while the Giants travel home to take on the undefeated Packers.

Incompletion to Nicks, and a 10 yard run by Ware, and game over.

Giants complete a screen pass to the 28 yard line.

Even when the Saints are running the clock out they can’t help but score a touchdown. It is scary. If it wasn’t for Green Bay, New Orleans would have the best offense in the NFL. They have so many weapons it isn’t even fair.

Saints are running the clock out now….and score…Ingram takes a pitch 35 yards and tiptoes the sidelines all the way for a touchdown. 49-28, New Orleans with 1:02 left in the game. 11:54 ET.

Ingram runs for 3 yards. Such a powerful runner. It took 4 defenders to bring him down.

Unnecessary roughness by Harper of the Saints as his momentum carried him into the intended receiver. On the next play, Manning finds Cruz in the corner of the end zone for a TD. 42-24, Saints lead with 5:12 remaining..11:40 ET…Manning is 20-for-20 in the 2nd half tonight, which is incredible. 12 play, 80 yard drive for NY.

Manning to Barden for 8 yards…clock is inside 7 minutes now.

Ware carries for 4 yards, then picks up 5 yards on a catch…that is 16 straight completions for Manning. His play is being overshadowed by Brees- but understandably so.

Cruz has 2 consecutive receptions to take New York to their 48.

Ware with a 6 yard catch and 5 yard catch back to back…The Giants will need a miracle to overcome this deficit in 9 minutes

Pierre Thomas cuts back for a 12 yard TD rush…New Orleans leads 42-17 with 10:41 remaining in the game. 11:28 ET…the TD caps off a 9 play, 80 yard drive by the Saints…New Orleans now has 529 total yards on offense…the clinic continues.

TE Graham rakes a huge hit to the helmet by Kenny Phillips and has his body bends backwards. Personal foul by NYG, Saints ball at the 11.

Thomas runs for 5 yards on 2nd and five as the Saints are right outside the red zone.

Thomas and Ingram each take a handoff to earn the first down for NO…the Giants need a stop badly, but are showing no signs that they are capable of doing so. New Orleans is too good.

Sproles takes an end around for 19 yards. Saints in New York territory already.

Brees incomplete to Sproles. 2nd and 10 at their own 36

Thomas runs for 9 yards for the Saints, then runs for 6 yards. Saints are in no-huddle.

New Orleans bit hard on the play action fake by Manning. Pitch and catch for the Giants.

On a 4th and 7, NYG fakes the punt and gains zero yards. An act of desperation at this point…Saints get called for a 15 yard taunting penalty, and it is their ball at the NYG 48 yard line as we near the end of the 3rd quarter

Nicks for 15 yards, and the Giants are forced to punt.

On 2nd and 8, Manning gets knocked down and loses the ball. An offensive lineman picks up the ball, and it is 3rd and 22.

Beautiful pass by Brees, his 4th passing TD of the night. He also has 1 rushing TD. Graham’s 2nd TD tonight….Brees is putting on a clinic. Even if you aren’t a Saints fan, you have to appreciate how he is playing tonight. He is in the midst of a record-breaking season in passing yards.

Graham hauls in a 29 yard touchdown pass from Brees, diving right over the pylon. This is officially a rout. Saints lead 35-10 with 4:13 left in the 3rd quarter. 11:00 ET.

Jason Pieree-Paul gets in the face of Brees and forces a wobbly, underthrown pass. 2nd and 10.

D. Scott runs for no gain, then Nicks follows up with an 8 yard screen pass play. On 3rd and 1, Giants RB Scott fumbles the ball at the Giants own 29 yard line.

The touchdown was Brees’ 4th of the night (3 pass, 1 rush), and capped off a 9 play, 73 yard drive. The Giants have absolutely no answer for this offense right now.

Brees takes a planned draw play into the end zone to extend the NO lead to 28-10 with 5:48 left in the 3rd. 10:48 Eastern Time….Brees was 1-on-1 with defender Deion Grant, but he jukes Grant and is able to score on the 9 yard rushing touchdown…Brees shows off his great athletic ability on the play. Is there anything this guy can’t do?

Giants challenge that Brees was past the line when he threw it, but the completion is confirmed. Ingram picks up 6 yards on 1st and 10. Middle of the 3rd quarter as the Saints are at the Giants 33.

Osi Umeniyora is out for the 2nd half with an ankle sprain.

Giant return kickoff to 33, Manning finds Jake Ballard for 14 yards on a rollout on 1st down

Thoughts on the first half- The Saints passing offense is dominating. Brees has thrown 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and 265 yards on 17-for-25 passing. The Giants have generated no pressure at all on Brees, and he has been able to go up-and-down the field at will. New York’s offense has been decent but has only amounted to 3 points. If the Giants have ANY hope of winning this game, they better make Brees uncomfortable in the pocket in the 2nd half. Either that or 2 or 3 huge turnovers.

Tynes attempts a 61 yard field goal on the last play of the first half that falls short. End of the first half, New Orleans leads 21-3. It is 10:11 Eastern Time.

Colston is wide open over the middle about 10 yards down the field, but drops the easy catch.

They convert with an 11 yard pass to Cruz. 2 minute warning now. Giants have a 1st and 10 at their own 31.

On 2nd and 10, Manning throws an incompletion that is almost intercepted. It is critical to covert here and get something going on offense for NYG

As discussed in the MNF preview, TE Jimmy Graham has a rising star in this league. He’s a huge mismatch for opposing defenses because he’s too fast for linebackers and too big/physical; for defensive backs. He is Brees’ favorite target.

Brees throws a touchdown to Graham on a quick slant. Too easy for New Orelans. 14-3, Saints lead. 2:21 remaining in the first half. 9:47 ET.

Sproles runs for 5 yards. 2nd and goal.

Henderson with a 24 yard reception down to the 10 yard line

Brees unable to connect with Sproles in the flat. Deion Grant with good coverage. 3rd and 7

On 3rd and 6, Manning throws incompletion to Nicks. Nicks not able to keep his feet in bounds.

Jacobs has a big hole en route to a 7 yard run. Almost at midfield.

Starting at their 30, the Giants begin the drive with an 8 yard pass to Hakeem Nicks

Hello, folks.

Just us for a Live Blog starting at 8:20pm tonight.

The New Orleans Saints (7-3) host the New York Giants (6-4) at the Superdome this Monday night in a potential playoff matchup.  The Saints are coming off two consecutive divisional wins in Week 9 and 10 vs. Atlanta and Tampa Bay and hold a one game lead in the NFC South. They had a bye last week.  The Giants, on the other hand, have lost their past two games. A win Monday would earn the team a tie for first place in the NFC East with the Cowboys.
