There aren’t many names bigger in the NFL than reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, so his brother Jordan’s tongue was firmly planted in his cheek when he told the media at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl press conference that he has never been asked how it feels to be Aaron’s little brother. It’s good that he has a sense of humor.
Jordan blazed his own trail from Northern California, playing at Butte CC (like Aaron) before moving to Vanderbilt University, Nashville, and the SEC.
Some might say he almost single-handedly turned around the Football program. His Honors Include: The Unitas Award watch list, and the SEC Academic honor role for both 2011 & 2012. Jordan started all 11 games in 2012 and was a co-captain. Completed nearly 60% of his passes this year(59.5%) for 2,431 yards and 13 Touchdowns. Rodgers’ father is an ex-high school football player and currently a Chiropractor in Chico, CA. Jordan completed his degree in Human & Organizational Development this past December.
ProPlayerInsiders (PPI): What have you taken away from the experience?
Rodgers (JR): “Coaching advice, invaluable information and playing with guys from different places, cool experience.”
PPI: What are you looking forward to?
JR: “Working with Nebraska tight end Ben Cotton and Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.”
PPI: How has college prepared you for the pros?
JR: ” The terminology of what the NFL uses, what the coaches use and the concepts and same terminology from NFL. Similar verbiage but styles of offense are different.”
PPI: Difference between college and the pros?
JR: “Learning a new offense—it’s a job—you gotta take someone’s job, their livelihood.”
PPI: Take us through the process leading up to the draft
JR: “You have the Season, then the bowl game, I’m training in Irvine at velocity and I’m meetings with scouts doing lots of interviews.”
PPI: Do you watch a lot of football and know many at players that will attend the game?
JR: “Not really. I’m more of a fan of badminton and food network, but when nothing else is on, I catch some football… I know a couple guys from North Carolina state and South Carolina, too.”
PPI: What is your favorite memory from college?
JR: “Beating Ol Miss and scoring a touchdown with less than a minute left.”
PPI: Who are some of your mentors?
JR: “Oprah Winfrey and my brothers. Aaron because of football and the advice his give me on the quarterback position. Luke because he’s the coolest guy ever.”
PPI: What players do you look up to the most?
JR: “My brothers.”
PPI: Do you ever feel like you’re in the shadows of your brother since you play the same position?
JR: “I used to, but now that I’m an older, I’d hope my brother would take the spotlight till I work my way up. Im his biggest fan. I want to emulate as many parts of his game as possible.”
PPI: What’s your favorite part of this whole experience?
JR: “Definitely the food. It’s really good.”
