The Jacksonville Jaguars announced today that the club has signed ninth-year offensive lineman Mackenzy Bernadeau as an unrestricted free agent.
Bernadeau, 6-4, 322, has spent the last four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after initially being drafted the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round (250th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. He has started in 48 of 95 games played during his career at both left and right guard, while also starting two games at center for Dallas in 2012. Bernadeau has played in all 16 games six of the last seven seasons, including all four for the Cowboys.
In 2012, Bernadeau started all 16 games in Dallas, and helped the offense tally 5,994 net yards – then third-most in team history. He made his Cowboys debut starting at right guard at the N.Y. Giants on Sept. 5, 2012, and helped block for a 100-yard rusher (DeMarco Murray, 131), 100-yard receiver (Kevin Ogletree, 114) and a 300-yard passer (Tony Romo, 307).
Bernadeau started all 37 games he played during his college career at Bentley, seeing action at both left guard and left tackle. He was named the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year as a junior and senior. As a senior, he was named American Football Coaches Association All-America, the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and a first-team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection.
The Waltham, Mass. native attended Waltham High School, where he played for former Bentley assistance coach Paul Mayberry and earned 2003 Daily News Tribune Player of the Year and team MVP honors while serving as team captain.
