Jags Release Garrard as QB

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reports that the Jaguars have released QB David Garrard. Wow… this is a shocker! We heard whispers earlier this offseason that the Jags could cut ties with Garrard and his $8 million salary, but this is strange timing with the season opener just 5 days away. Glazer also reports that Luke McCown, not Blaine Gabbert, will start against the Titans this Sunday. McCown has experience in OC Dirk Koetter’s offense and completed 67% of his passes with 2 TDs and 0 INTs this preseason. Still, this is a downgrade for Jacksonville’s passing game. We’re lowering Mike Thomas, Jason Hill, and Marcedes Lewis in our preseason rankings. And we’d still expect Gabbert to take over by midseason, which would just be another roadblock for this passing game.
