At the Philadelphia Eagles press conference yesterday, Coach Andy Reid was asked if he remains committed to Michael Vick. “Today, I am,” said Reid, according to a report via Tim McManus of Phillymag.com
Reid was put on notice by owner Jeffrey Lurie before the season started that he could be gone if the Eagles fail to make the postseason. If Reid is gone, it is possible Michael Vick will also be gone. Vick has 11 turnovers in 6 games this season and in his last 31 games has 40 turnovers. Vick was handed a $100 million, six year contract after the 2010 season, but only $40 million was guaranteed. He threw 21 TDs and only 6 INTs in 2010, but since then he has regressed, throwing 26 TDs and 22 INTs with 6 fumbles in 2011 and 2012.
After blowing the lead for 2 consecutive games Reid said he will “tear things apart” and evaluate everything. You can be sure Vick will be a big part of that evaluation process.
“I am going to take a hard look at everything,” he said. The first shoe already fell on Tuesday as the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and replaced him with defensive secondary coach Todd Bowles. Certainly looking at the offense isn’t out of the question, either.
While Vick seems to have regressed, the Eagles only option at this point would be to turn the reins over to rookie quarterback Nick Foles. With the way the offensive line is playing, they may not be a good idea.
What would be a good idea is to revisit the running game and figure out how to get the ball in the hands of their playmaker LeSean McCoy more.
