Injured Jets Facing Bills with Playoff Hopes Waning

The 5-5 New York Jets face off this weekend with the 5-5 Buffalo Bills at home, as both teams are tied for second place in the AFC East, 2 games behind the New England Patriots.  Both teams would be out of the playoffs based on today’s records, so they both have an uphill climb.

The Jets have lost two games in a row, to New England and Denver, and look to get back on track against the Bills.  The Bills have lost three in a row since starting 5-2, and their current losing streak started with a loss to the Jets in Week Nine.  The Bills will be playing without Fred Jackson, their most talented offensive weapon, as he is out for the season with a fractured fibula.

On the injury front for the Jets, running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who has a sprained left MCL, had a setback in practice and will probably be out for this Sunday’s game. Rookie running back Bilal Powell (illness) did not practice yesterday, but should be ready for Sunday.  Look for running back Joe McKnight to get more of the load on Sunday.

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley did not practice with a sprained left MCL; however, he was doing agility drills on the sideline during practice.  It’s a game time decision for him.

In other Jets-related news, Rex Ryan was fined $75,000 by the league for cursing at a fan during halftime of the Jets game against New England.  The Houston Texans have signed former Jets backup quarterback Kellen Clemons.  Clemons was a Jets second round pick by the Eric Mangini coaching staff.
