Indianapolis Colts put Brackett, Bullitt on IR

The Colts placed MLB Gary Brackett and S Melvin Bullitt on IR Wednesday. That locks in Pat Angerer as the MLB starter for at least the rest of the season. Unless he chokes, Angerer should keep the job beyond that as well. Brackett is 31, injury prone and slated to make $5 million in base salary next year -- with 2 years at $6.6 million beyond that. Angerer and OLB Kavell Conner have helped enhance the Indy run D early this season, and Angerer now presents sky-high tackle upside. In Bullitt's place, IndyStar.com's Phillip B. Wilson expects Joe Lefeged and David Caldwell to split time. That makes neither even slightly interesting until 1 emerges. Bullitt has never delivered strong IDP numbers since taking over for Bob Sanders anyway.
