This is usually the time of the year when people start disagreeing with me, but after 4-5 weeks, you can tell the teams that are good or bad against the run or pass and the ones who are good or bad against QBs, RBs, WRs, and TE. Reading who your player is going against is a very important part in weekly lineup decisions. Not everyone can be an every week starting stud. Starts: (outside of top 10 players of that position):
QBs
Kirk Cousins – I had Cousins as a start last week and we saw how well that went. I’m going with him again against a Giants defense that has been below average against the pass and have given up the 6th most points to QBs this year.
Blake Bortles – Every time you get a new young QB in the fold, you expect a little surge out of the team. Bortles gets a healthy Cecil Shorts, and deep threat in Allen Robinson, and the offensive playcalling will probably be more aggressive.
RBs
Lamar Miller – Last week, Miller was also on my start list. I spoke about him finally getting a chance to be the feature back and he definitely took advantage of it with 132 total yards on only 19 touches. He can solidify the starting spot with another performance like that again.
Donald Brown – Against the Buffalo Bills, Brown struggled and could only average 2 yards per carry. However, this week, he faces a Jacksonville team that has given up the most point in the league to RBs. It’s a mathup game people, take advantage of it.
WRs
Kelvin Benjamin – In Bejamin, you are looking at this years Alshon Jeffery. A BIG WR that can outmuscle pretty much any defensive back in the league for a jumpball. I think he can keep this up all year and could quietly end up in the top 10 WRs by the end of the year.
Anquan Boldin– I understand that this is a risky recommendation, but I strongly believe in Boldin. Even though many would disagree, I still feel he is the best WR on the 49ers and they are going against a team that scores a lot and gives up a lot.
TEs
Antonio Gates – People jumped all over Gates after his 3 TD performance off the Seahawks, but probably gave up on him just as fast with his less than 1 pt performance against Buffalo. I’m asking you to jump back on him. The Jaguars are the worst team in the league vs TEs.
Sits:
QBs
Alex Smith – The Patriots are the #1 team in the league against QBs and the Chiefs don’t seem to be clicking on all cylinders right now. If Charles is healthy, he will get a load of touches and Smith will be asked to just not turn the ball over.
Ryan Tannehill – If Tannehill has 1 more bad performance, he may be benched. There was even a question if he would be benched for this week. Oakland is not a good team, but they are very solid against the pass. This is a do or die game for the young Dolphin signal caller.
RBs
Rashad Jennings – I’ve been attacked by Jennings’ owners because I’ve been saying that he’s not this good and won’t keep it up. This is going to be my last shot at him if he proves me wrong here. Redskins are the 2nd best in the league against running backs.
DeAngelo Williams – From the outside looking in, most would say to start Williams. No Stewart, no Tolbert, an injured Cam Newton, and he has proven to be good with no competition. However, Baltimore is a solid run defense and is better at home.
WRs
Mike Wallace – I like Wallace and I can understand anyone starting him against my recommendation, but he’s facing the Raiders, which as I said before, actually cover the pass pretty well. If you do have to start him, maybe he can get behind the defense once.
TY Hilton – Just like the Raiders, the Titans are struggling this year, but they can defend the pass. They were good against the pass last year and they have repeated that trend this year. Luck has been hot, so this will be a very interesting fantasy football matchup.
TEs
Greg Olsen – Just like Wallace, Olsen is another guy I really like. He just happens to be going against a Baltimore team that is the 2nd best in the league against TEs. If the Panthers are going to win this game, it’s not going to be with Olsen or Williams, it will be with Benjamin.
