Fantasy Football: NFL Week 16 Starts and Sits

It’s the most important week in fantasy football. Whether you have a one or two weeks based finals, or even if you have a week 17 final and this week is your semifinals (and you should really change that), week 16 in considered the money week in the fantasy football community. As I say every week, if you have any last minute decisions regarding a player in a start or sit situation, you can just tweet me @pacman453323. So for probably the last time this year, let’s get into the Week 16 Starts and Sits.

Starts: (outside of top 10 players of that position):

QBs

Mark Sanchez – People have gone from killing the Jets for letting Sanchez go, all the way to killing the Eagles for picking him up, all within a four week period. Sanchez’s value will always be based on the matchup and this week he has a good one against the Redskins. Start him and you’ll be fine.

Andy Dalton – If you want my honest opinion, I like Andy Dalton, but all he is, essentially, is a red-headed, younger, Mark Sanchez. He is completely dependent on the matchup and needs a strong running game to lean on. The only difference between him and Sanchez of the Jets days is having AJ Green to throw to.

RBs

Fred Jackson – The Raiders have a bad defense and even though they’ve been better recently, we still say what can be done against them when Knile Davis took a short pass 70 yards on them. Jackson is a steady performance and a pretty good bet to score once on the Oakland D.

Toby Gerhart – The Jaguars have a better offense than the Jets, so they should be able to move the ball a little better than the Jets did. The Titans have a soft run defense and even if they can find a way to stop Gerhart from having a big game, I still see him scoring at least once.

WRs

Rays

DeSean Jackson – Not only do I expect a shootout with these two teams, but add to the fact that Jackson would LOVE to be a main reason if the Eagles done make the playoffs, and you’ve got a big reason to start a very motivated D-Jax on Sunday.

Jeremy Maclin – As I said, I expect a lot of points in this game and the Redskins have not been good covering WRs this year. I can see Maclin getting loose for a TD purely due to a heavy passing attack by Chip Kelly to counter the only thing the Redskins do well, stopping the run.

TEs

Eric Ebron – There have been so many bad TEs this year. It has probably been the biggest disappointment in fantasy football as a whole this year. Unless you have a top 5 TE, it’s all about matchups and the Bears give up more points to TEs than anyone in the league.

Sits:

QBs

Jay Cutler – Monday Night Football last week was an embarrassment. Cutler should have roasted the Saints D, instead he should have been benched. This week he faces one of the best defenses in the league and a defense that completely shut him down on Thanksgiving after the 1st two drives.

Philip Rivers – During the 2nd half of the season, Rivers has been much shakier than in the 1st half. The 49ers defense also has not been as good, but this game is being played on a semi short week and this maybe the last chance for San Francisco to show any pride.

RBs

Jeremy Hill, Donte Whitner

Jeremy Hill – I’m sure everyone is on the Jeremy Hill train now, but he had a give matchup and were up big last week, plus the Browns are breaking down in front of our eyes. The Broncos on the other hand have a good run defense and should be up, which leads to fewer rushes.

Rashad Jennings – The Giants are honestly all over the map. Other than Odell Beckham Jr, it’s hard to predict anything from them. The Rams are playing very well right now and have one of the best defenses in the league.

WRs

Sammy Watkins – After watching the Packers-Bills last week, I’m convinced that the Bills don’t truly know how to use Watkins. He can beat almost anyone one on one, yet, they continue to line him up on the outside instead of putting him in the slot more and putting him in motion.

Malcolm Floyd – This recommendation ties in with my comments under the recommendation to bench Rivers. People will be fast to try to jump on Floyd with the news of Keenan Allen being done for the year, but as I said above, this one is about pride for the 49ers defense.

TEs

Larry Donnell – Last week was a real disappointment watching Donnell. With the emergence of Beckham Jr, Eli Manning, and all of NY media, seems to have forgotten everyone else on the team. You can’t trust Donnell to snap out of it now and I’d start someone like Ebron, who I mentioned earlier, over him.

Those are your Week 16 Starts and Sits in the NFL. Good luck in the playoffs and enjoy the games.
