Jets coach Rex Ryan called the Giants the “little brother” to his Jets ball club. Ryan feels the Jets are “the better team and rule the city of New York now,” since his team has been to the AFC championship game the last two years and the Giants have not even been to the playoffs the last two years.
Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz called out Jets All Pro Darrelle Revis and said “no one is scared to throw at him anymore.”
This has been the week of trash talking at its best in the Big Apple; however, what must not be forgotten in all this New York versus New York talk is that both teams need this game to help secure a playoff spot. That issue is bigger than who is the King of New York.
The Jets and Giants both control their own destiny – if either team wins out in the next two games, they are in the playoffs. The Giants would win the NFC East and the Jets would win a wild card spot in the AFC. But only one team can win this week.
The Jets, who are the home team for this game even though both teams share the same stadium, are asking the fans to wear all green on Saturday and be as loud as they can. The Jets have enjoyed the home field advantage this year with a six and one record at home. In the past twenty five years the Jets have only finished seven and one at home twice.
The Giants teams of the past, with star player Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks from the great teams of the 80′s, have always called the Jets second fiddle to the Giants in New York.
If the Jets can win this game Saturday, not only do they win a big game for a chance at the playoffs, they can also knock out the Giants from the playoff picture. If you’re a Jet fan, what could be a better gift this holiday season than that?
Grab Bag and Injury Notes
Jets linebacker Calvin Pace was fined $15,000 by the NFL for a hit on Micheal Vick last week. It was a helmet to helmet hit in the first quarter, and Pace plans to appeal to the league.
Some injury notes
Running back Joe McKnight, who has a separated shoulder, will be a game time decision. Also, punt returner and wide out Jeremy Kerley was back at practice after missing two days with an illness.
Linebacker David Harris was not at practice on Thursday due to personal reasons, but will be ready to go on Saturday.
