Last season the Detroit Lions had gotten off to a great start in the first half of the season, but in the second half of the season the Lions struggled to close out games and perform at high class potential that the fans know that they are more than capable of doing. This year the Lions are strengthen their defense and add more pieces to the Lions so they could finally got out of their slump and head into the post season.
The start of the 2014 season for the Lions had started with a mandatory mini camp and Lions head coach Jim Caldwell have been praising what he has evaluated so far. “I think we have made good progress thus far. Guys have done a good job, just in terms of concentrating. Oftentimes, you get toward the end and you’re not quite as sharp as you’d like to be, but I think, really on both sides of the ball, we’ve made good, steady, progress. I think the guys have learned extremely well. They’ve been attentive. It’s been enthusiastic. Certainly, we’ve got a long way to go, but I think we’re wrapping it up at the right time and the right way. Tomorrow will be a big day for us and we’ll finish that off and get a little bit of a break.”
Surprisingly the Lions execution was on point and very accurate and Coach Jim Caldwell had some outlook on the way the Lions looked executing plays. “You’re never completely satisfied. You know that. I think we’ve made a lot of good progress. I do think that they’ve really taken in and learned a lot of material. We threw it all at them, and that’s kind of what you do during this time of year. You start to, obviously, pair it down somewhat, but they have got a good grasp with the system so far. I think with the information, particularly the basic foundation of what we do in all of our schemes offense, defense and kicking game. So we have been satisfied on what we observed so far.
The lion’s offense has been very dominate with speed and crafty plays in recent years and Jim explains why the Lions are one of the best at what they do. “There are a lot of guys on the offense. If you take a look at who is on our staff, you would find out we have a bunch of players that have great experience that
have done some notable things in the using a lot of skills, expertise, and their knowledge about the game. All that intellectual property we have, we’re going to use it all to the best of our ability to make certain that it suits the guys that we have. So I can’t tell you that it’s going to look like this team or look like that team. As a matter of fact
I don’t care. What I care about is making certain that its right for us and its right for the Lions? It’s the Lions’ offense, defense, and special teams that we make a difference in the game. That’s a blend of all of our guys that are involved in it.”
This is just the start of a long year for these players, but it looks like Coach Jim Caldwell is pleased for the moment with the improvement of his players and the on the dot accuracy with getting plays close to perfection.
