It’s not much of a surprise but Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, is reporting that the Eagles told Vince Young he’s definitely starting Sunday against the Patriots. The Eagles will also be without their wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin, according to the NFL Network citing a league source.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, the source said, is “going to try to play” despite not practicing on Friday. Asomugha hyperextended his left knee in Thursday’s practice and was listed as questionable. Asomugha will warm up and test his knee prior to Sunday’s game, making his status a game-time decision. Nnamdi Asomugha was carted off the practice field on Thursday.
Eagles WR DeSean Jackson (foot) returned to practice on Thursday. The injury was never believed to be serious, and he is expected to play against the Patriots this weekend.
The Eagles will need all the help they can get against the 7-3 New England Patriots, who rebounded from back to back losses against the Steelers and Giants to win two in a row against the Jets and Chiefs. The Patriots are once again in first place in the AFC East, and tied for the second best record in the AFC.
Philadelphia has climbed out of the basement in the NFC East, but still has a lot of work to do to make the playoffs. Although there’s a lot of possibilities, they likely will have to run the table for the rest of the regular season to assure a playoff slot, and after the Patriots, they still have tough games left against the Jets and Cowboys.
Vince Young did lead the Eagles to a big win last weekend against the New York Giants, despite throwing 3 interceptions. He finished 23 of 36 for 258 yards and 2 TDs. He was helped considerably by 113 rushing yards from LeSean McCoy and a strong game from DeSean Jackson, who had 6 receptions for 88 yards, and another 54 yards in punt returns.
