Devin Hester named starter

Bears OC Mike Martz has named WR Devin Hester his starting flanker.  It’s perplexing news.  Hester caught just 40 of his 73 targets for 475 yards and 4 TDs last year.  While electric in the open field, he still hasn’t really developed into an NFL-caliber WR.  But the Bears coaching staff liked what they saw on tape last year.  “[Hester] played so much better than people imagined,” WRs coach Darryl Drake said. “Sometimes you don’t realize some things until you really sit down and you look and see what you asked of him, and he was always where he was supposed to be. He really was our best receiver last year, even though the numbers didn’t show it.”  We’d like to see this tape that the coaching staff is looking at.  Johnny Knox was the Bears’ most explosive playmaker last year, but he’s now battling with Roy Williams for the other starting spot.  We just bumped Hester up our rankings, although we still wouldn’t trust him as a fantasy starter.
