After a sluggish first two preseason games, the Cowboys offense will look to get on track against the St. Louis Rams in this season’s first game at Cowboys Stadium. In 2 preseason games, the Cowboys have only scored 2 TDs and 3 FGs. However, Saturday they will look to right the ship as they return home for the first time this preseason in what should be a dress rehearsal for the starters. Normally, week 3 in the preseason is when teams play their starters the longest in hopes to get everyone in rhythm for the regular season.
The battle for the Cowboys 3rd WR position seems to be coming down to Kevin Ogletree and Cole Beasley. Last week against the Chargers, Ogletree hauled in 4 passes for 60 yards, while Beasely caught 7 passes for 104 yards. Despite the difference in stats, Ogletree seems to have made the biggest statement while playing against first team defenses. According to Cowboys QB Tony Romo,
“Kevin has shown flashes for a long time,”…. “It’s just that he needed to make it each day. He’s got to be that guy, he’s got to make it that important. And he’s done that and he’s really come on this off season and this training camp. I’m glad the production is showing on the field.”
On the defensive side of the ball, new free agent corner Brandon Carr has stolen the show. Against the Chargers, Carr had two interceptions and was the ball-hawking corner the Cowboys envisioned when they signed him. After the game, Head Coach Jason Garrett paid Carr a nice compliment. Garrett told the press that Carr’s interceptions were:
“… two big-time plays. We preach the ball, the ball, the ball, all the time to the team, and when guys make those plays, they’re difference-making plays.”
This Saturday expect the Cowboys to play their starters for at least the first half with hopes of getting their offense in rhythm, especially with the season opener at the Meadow Lands less than two weeks away
