A member of the Dallas Cowboys practice-squad, Jerry Brown died Saturday morning following a car accident in Irving, Texas.  Brown was a passenger in a car driven by fellow teammate Josh Brent.  Brown and Brent were teammates at Illinois before reuniting in Dallas after Brown was released from the Colts.

According to Irving police, Brent was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter after flipping his car.  The police in their statement said,  Brent was driving his car at a high rate of speed at 2:21 a.m. when he hit the outside curb on Route 114, causing the vehicle to flip at least once and then come to rest in the middle of a service road.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones issued the following statement:

“We are deeply sadden by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown.  At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him.”

The Cowboys flew to Cincinnati for Sunday’s game against the Bengals, Brent did not make the trip. According to a statement, the players were told on the plane just before takeoff of what happened after non-team personnel were asked to go outside.

Colts General Manager, Ryan Grigson  said, “On behalf of the entire Colts family, our sincerest condolences go out to Jerry’s family and friends. He was a good teammate that was well liked by all.
