The Colts have dropped another game, keeping their record perfect at 0-5 and one of the last remaining winless teams this year, as they fell to the Chiefs 24-28 after a strong first half. The Chiefs advanced their record to 2-3
The game was definitely a story with two vastly different acts. The first half, Curtis Painter looked like a strong substitute for Peyton Manning, as he completed 12 of 17 passes for 237 yards and 2 TDs, with no INTs. The Colts built up a 24-7 lead before Matt Cassel hit Steve Breaston with a 16 TD pass with just 0:13 seconds left in the first half to cut the lead to 24-14.
With that TD, the momentum seemed to totally switch, and the second half was all Chiefs. The Chiefs outscored the Colts 14-0 in the second half, and Painter was a dismal 3 of 10 for 40 yards in the second half.
Cassel finished the day 21 of 29 for 257 yards and 4 TDs, with no picks, for a QB rating of 138.9 and he connected with 8 different receivers. The receiving was led by Dwayne Bowe, who had 7 receptions for 128 yards and 2 TDs. The Chiefs also had 194 yards rushing and averaged 5.1 yards per carry against a Colts rushing defense that was ranked 28th in the league going into the game, and will fall from there.
On the plus side for the Colts, if there is one, the last time Indianapolis started 0-5 was 1997, the year before Manning arrived. They were rewarded with the top overall pick in the draft, with which they selected Manning. Perhaps they can repeat that feat with Andrew Luck in next year’s draft.
