Training camp for the Arizona Cardinals got underway this past weekend and one thing that stood out like a sore thumb, was the big smile on the face of star corner-back Patrick Peterson.
The star corner-back was seen after every session of camp this weekend staying longer afterwards for the fans signing autographs, and happy being the last guy to run off the field to the locker room.
Today we found out where the excitement came from as Peterson proudly announced his new extension from the team today on twitter, a five year 70 million with 48 million guaranteed, which put him at the top of the list for highest paid corner matching Richard Sherman.
Happy to announce my 5 year extension with @AZCardinals! $70M and $48M Guaranteed!! #AZCardinals #P2Nation #YearOfTheCardinal

When asked about his comparison to the other corners battling for number one supremacy Peterson said “That’s going to go on the rest of our careers,” Peterson also added. “All four guys in the conversation … we all have different skill sets and all four of us have the ability to be the best in the league. The competition is real, I love it, and it will make all four of us play that much harder. I don’t have anything against any of those guys”.
A very confident Peterson must have known something all along about his contract extension getting done as he said all the right things to the media when questioned about his contract before today, “I haven’t been to the playoffs since I have been here and that’s my first goal,” Peterson said. “That’s what I am focusing in on right now.” The sounds of a person that really wants to prove he is worthy of the big money the team has put up for him.
Peterson will be exclusively a corner-back only this year, and his focus to be the best corner he can be is showing in camp. The star Corner-back is seen in the huddle pumping up the defense to not allow the offense to make plays, which made for some really exciting battles between he and star receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.
Moving forward, now the pressure of living up to the contract starts this season. Peterson has done a lot of maturing and growing and looks the part of the best corner in the league, one thing is for sure, now he is paid like it.
