C.J. Spiller can be a “Workhorse”

Bills GM Buddy Nix had high praise for RB C.J. Spiller in his season-ending press conference.  “Everyone’s been surprised, I guess, about C.J. except us,” Nix said.

“We always knew what we had. The opportunity is what he needed and he got it when Fred [Jackson] got hurt. I’m one of the few who thinks C.J. can run inside and be a workhorse kind of back.I think he can run inside the tackles. He’s stronger than you think he is.”

After Jackson went down in Week 11, Spiller averaged 18 touches per game.  He ranked 4th among RBs in fantasy points over the final 6 weeks.  Buffalo’s backfield will be a situation to monitor closely this offseason.

Fred Jax was one of the top backs in the NFL before going down, and he’ll likely retain lead duties.  Spiller certainly earned a bigger workload though.  It could end up being closer to a 50-50 split than most people think.
