Buffalo Jill of The Month: Courteney

Our November Jill of The Month is a lady who is one of three veterans on the Buffalo Jills Ambassador Squad. Unlike Laura and Alyssa B though, Courteney started out by trying for dance. Some girls may give up if they don’t get what they are shooting for but not Courteney. In her four seasons as a Jills Ambassador, she’s not only accepted the role but she’s embraced it.

It’s no secret that the fortunes of the Buffalo Bills have been down for over a decade now and fans need some positivity before games these days. Most fans rely on the camaraderie at tailgate parties to help them get in a positive mood, but sometimes that’s not enough. The Jills Ambassadors’ primary job in pregame is to greet the fans at the tailgate parties, sell calendars, and help get the fans in a positive mood before the game.  If a Bills fan only gets a chance to talk to one of the Ambassadors and really needs a pick-me-up, Courteney is the girl to see. It’s rare that she’s ever in a bad mood, although it’s not clear whether that’s a gift she was born with or if it comes from the fact that she and her husband still act like they’re newlyweds after 3 years of marriage.

Courteney’s hobbies go beyond staying in shape for the Jills.  She and her husband stay active and, like most Buffalonians, they love hockey. She’s big on playing bubble hockey and they both actively play field hockey. As a matter of fact, about the only time they’re separated is when she’s doing her work as a Buffalo Jill, because they even work together. She does enjoy other things that don’t relate to sports including spending time with her very supportive family, as well as with her squad mates. She even helped her captain, Laura, in a short-lived web series on YouTube on dating in which Laura and 2 squad mates would discuss dating tips for guys.

Even though Courteney’s an Ambassador who, quite frankly, sets a great example, she still loves to dance. The only negative to that, for her husband anyway, is that when a dancer is working hard to learn a routine, they will play the  same music at home a lot in the time leading up to their performance.

In addition to her preparing for dance tryouts in 2009 and 2010, she did a lot of prep work to get ready for the 2010 halftime show in Toronto as well as a pregame performance with the Jills alumni in 2011. To this day, the group Hinder drives her husband crazy, because that’s all she listened to in the weeks leading up to the 2010 halftime show that included the Jills, several Jills alumni, the Buffalo Bandettes, and several dancers from Fusion Dance Studio.

With a big halftime performance coming up in Toronto this year, I’m sure Courteney is already listening to Psy non-stop at home in preparation! While the music may be a little taxing on her husband, the fact that it’s making his wife happy more than makes up for it in his eyes.
