The Buffalo Bills continue their Offseason Training Activities this week at Ralph Wilson Stadium and Pro Player Insiders was in Orchard Park, New York for the Bills’ first practice of the week. The team has shown how serious they are about improving this offseason with close to perfect attendance at all of their OTA sessions so far. A familiar face, who has not been able to practice much this offseason, took to the practice field on Monday – Bills’ wide receiver Stevie Johnson.
Johnson has been recovering from a groin surgery for a few weeks now, and although he was not fully participating in practice it was a very good sign that Johnson was getting a few reps with one of his coaches. Johnson addressed the media following Monday’s OTA practice and he noted he should be back next week getting in reps with Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Johnson noted how important it is for him to get reps with Fitzpatrick early on in the offseason stating, “If it wasn’t important I don’t think any of the teams would be having OTAs or having things like this. It’s always good to be able to connect with your quarterback.”
Although Johnson feels as though he needs to get out on the field and catch up with the progress the rest of his team is making, it is important for the number one wide receiver to take his recovery slow. Johnson and head coach Chan Gailey realize how crucial it is for him not to be re-injured, so they are not going to rush his return to the field.
“I’m ready to go,” Johnson told reporters. “They said it was about six to eight [weeks for recovery], but I’m feeling like I’m ready to be out there, and I think we’re moving towards that next week.
