Over the course of this country’s lifetime, we as a nation have had to learn to grow and adapt to the differences we have, even the simplest such as race, gender, and other prejudices. Jackie Robinson helped to break the color barrier in baseball, incorporating overseas players in the NBA has brought an international flavor from all parts of the world, and most recently, Danica Patrick made NASCAR history by being the first woman on the pole at the Daytona 500. Now there are signs of another barrier working to be broken. A young former female soccer player from M.I.T. named Lauren Silberman, who has a genuine love of the game of football, is attempting to make some history of her own as the first female to tryout at the Regional NFL combine last week.
