New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has announced that Michael Vick will be the starter for the game at Kansas City on Sunday.
The move was made after Smith threw three interceptions in the first ten-plus minutes of the game, finishing 2-8 for 5 yards and his three picks. Vick came in for Smith and helped the Jets score 17 points in the rest of the first half and 23 overall in the entire game, completing 18 of 36 attempts for 153 yards, an interception and two lost fumbles, and rushed for 69 yards on eight attempts.

Smith ranks 30 of 31 qualifying quarterbacks in ESPN’s QBR rating with a 27.6, being only above Jacksonville Jaguars rookie signal-caller Blake Bortles, and has thrown 7 touchdowns to 10 interceptions, along with six fumbles. With the move, New York becomes the second-team to bench a quarterback taken in the 2013 draft out of the AFC East, joining rival Buffalo, who made the move from E.J. Manuel and Kyle Orton in week 5.
