Brandin Cooks “I Can Do It Better Than DeSean Jackson”

Oregon State’s own wide receiver Brandin Cooks looks to start his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles recently had released DeSean Jackson and might be looking for a receiver to take his spot. The Eagles have the number 22 draft pick this year.040314-nfl-Brandin-Cooks-pi-mp.vadapt.955.medium.83

Cooks has admires Jackson’s sensational career in Philly, but as time moves forward so does the expectations within the Eagles organization. Former Eagle’s safety Brian Dawkins had shed a little light about why Jackson was released.  “It’s being a professional, it’s being able to be counted on to be with your team, do what you’re supposed to do. Not skate around the corner, the cut corners, not doing some of the things that Jackson allegedly have been doing.”

In a bold statement, Cooks was very open and opinionated about what he could offer the Eagles; “Maybe Chip Kelly is looking to take another speedy receiver in that first round, and that could be me. Who knows? And if that’s the case, a lot of people will wonder, ‘Can he do it like DeSean Jackson?’ In my opinion, I can do it like him and do it better.”

Brandin was very active last year with 128 receptions for 1730 yards. He has proven that he is a speedster, but that was only in college. “I feel like I’m the best receiver in this class and I’m not just saying that to say it,” Cooks said. “I put numbers that nobody else did this year. At the same time I was facing premier talent.”I have respect for the other guys and give credit where credit is due, but I’m able to blow the top off, I’m able to catch underneath routes and take them the distance, but I see myself right up there with those guys, and in that top 5 conversation, top 3.”

NFL scouts have been impressed with Cook’s speed, he had ran a 4.33 and put up a best shuttle time since 2006. The amazing thing within all these events was that he didn’t really practice. “I was going off my natural athleticism. I knew I had the speed, I knew I had the change of direction. I just touched on everything. I tweaked a couple things, but it’s not like I came into training like, ‘I need to focus on this 40 and make sure I get a 4.3.’ No. I knew I was going to run a 4.3 no matter what.”

According to a source close to the situation, the Eagles have expressed interest in Cooks, with head coach Chip Kelly particularly interested in the wideout. The wideout is currently slated to go in the second round.
