Blaine Gabbert will compete for starting job

It’s been widely assumed that QB David Garrard would open the season as Jacksonville’s starter, while rookie Blaine Gabbert learned the offense from the sidelines.  And we’re still expecting that to be the case considering HC Jack Del Rio is on the hot seat and needs to win now.  But Jags QB coach Mike Sheppard says Gabbert will be given a fair chance to win the starting job in training camp.  "As an organization, I think we believe the competition will solve itself," Sheppard said.  "We feel good about David.  We feel good enough about Blaine… Let the competition roll and play itself out."  The smart money is still on Garrard being under center come Week 1.  But there’s also a good chance we’ll see Gabbert at some point in 2011.  Your best bet is to avoid the situation in fantasy.
