The Buffalo Bills announced today that running back C.J. Spiller on the Reserve/injured, Designated for Return list.
Spiller suffered a broken collarbone (CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora via WGR’s Joe Buscaglia) on a 52 yard run against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. After having surgery on Monday, Spiller might have a chance to play in the final two games of the season, according to the timeline by ESPN’s Adam Caplan.
So, Spiller will miss at least 8 weeks (6 weeks can't practice, 7th-8th weeks can practice if ready, can return in 9th week).

With only Anthony Dixon (13 carries for 51 yards on Sunday, 27 for 137 on the season for a 5.1 average) and Bryce Brown (has not been active for a game all season) on the depth chart, the team also announced the signing of Phillip Tanner to the roster to join the running back group. Tanner, an undrafted free agent in 2011, played for his hometown Dallas Cowboys for three seasons (2011-2013), rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 56 career carries (2.66 yards per carry).
If the injury were to end Spiller’s season and potentially his time in Buffalo (unrestricted free agent after the season), he finishes the 2014 campaign with 287 yards on 69 carries (4.2 yard per carry) and 14 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Fred Jackson, who suffered a groin injury on Sunday, could be back in a month, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (via NFL Network’s Michael Fabiano).
