The Buffalo Bills entered their second week of Offseason Training Activities on Tuesday and the team is continuing to make progress. Pro Player Insiders was on scene for the afternoon practice and it was obvious both the coaches and the players are taking OTAs very seriously.
Head coach Chan Gailey, running back Fred Jackson, and linebacker Nick Barnett addressed the media following practice. Gailey and Jackson were upbeat and had only positive things to say about the work the Bills have put in thus far in the offseason. However, when asked about how good he thinks the Bills’ defense can be this season, Barnett took Gailey and Jackson’s positivity to the next level.
His response was, “I think we can be as good as the best defense in the NFL if we do what we’re supposed to do. I definitely think we have that potential.”
Barnett commented on how a healthy Shawne Merriman, as well as the newest additions to the Bills defensive line – Mark Anderson and Mario Williams – will make their new 4-3 defensive scheme “something to deal with.” Barnett acknowledged the fact that the Buffalo Bills defense still has a lot of work to do, however with the OTA practices left and training camp coming up he feels as though they can reach their goals and achieve greatness.
The entire Buffalo Bills team is committed to putting in the required time to be a playoff contender in the 2012 season. The positive energy surrounding this team and the dedication exemplified by the players so far this offseason seem to be steps in the right direction toward future success.
