With the draft done and over the next step of the offseason is for teams to hold OTA’s and Eagles have started their first full team OTA. This was Chip Kelly’s first chance to see all the Eagles, veterans and newly drafted rookies.
Speed was the main point of emphasis at practice, and veteran quarterback Michael Vick said the quick pace was good for simulating a game “We just gotta keep going, and that’s good, because that’s what we gotta do in a game. Everything’s not gonna be perfect. Gotta keep going. Gotta keep moving.”
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson also said this was a big change from what most players were used to under former head coach Andy Reid “Chip’s coming in with a different demeanor, a different fire, a different energy, and he’s taken a lot on his hands, installing that offense and never really having had an offense in the NFL like it. At the same time, it’s a learning process for everybody.”
The big story aside from the new coaching style was the upcoming competition at the quarterback position. Michael Vick, Nick Foles, and newly drafter Matt Barkley will all be battling for the starting position and Kelly has said they are all starting on an even keel. It will be interesting to see if it’s the veteran in Vick, the second year player in Foles, or the rookie in Barkley that will get the starting nod.
