Tony Romo wished for better days as he threw 5 interceptions in a beat down in the big D. The final score was 34-18 as the Bears devoured the Cowboys. There wasn’t much for Cowboys fans in this game as the Bears capitalized on errant throws from Romo. Romo completed 31 of 43 passes for 307 yards with five interceptions as the Bears won the turnover battle 5-1.
Charles Tillman returned an interception 25 yards for a TD with 2:38 left in the half to put the Bears up 10-0, but Dallas responded quick score by going 80 yards on nine plays in under two and a half minutes, scoring on a 10-yard TD pass to Miles Austin with 14 seconds left in the half. Austin had three catches for 41 yards in the half, all on that drive.
Chicago opened the second half with a 73-yard drive topped off by Jay Cutler’s 34-yard TD pass to Devin Hester, who rushed past rookie cornerback Morris Claiborne and had to make a lunging catch at the goal line. Cutler finished the night 18 of 24 for 275 yards with 2 TDs and no interceptions.
Chicago had its first fumble of the season midway through the third quarter when DeMarcus Ware sacked Jay Cutler, forcing the ball out. Mario Butler recovered for Dallas at the Bears 27, but it took only one play before the Bears got the ball back, and scored their second defensive TD of the game. Tony Romo was trying to escape pressure when he was hit from the back by Henry Melton. The ball came out into the air and Briggs grabbed it and ran to the end zone on a play ruled an interception instead of a fumble. It was the first pick he returned for a TD since 2005. From there, the Bears never looked back, and after Romo’s five picks, Kyle Orton was brought in to mop up. Orton had an excellent night in garbage time, finishing 9 of 10 for 89 yards and 1 TD.
Pro Bowl RB Matt Forte returned to the Bears lineup after missing the last game with a sprained right ankle and being limited in practice all week. He had 10 carries for a total of 48 yards through three quarters.
Brandon Marshall showed the chemistry with Cutler that Bears fans were hoping to see when he signed, catching 7 balls for 138 and 1 TD. Jay Cutler completed 75 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and a passer rating of 140.1.
The Bears take the day off on Tuesday before returning to the practice on Wednesday to prepare for another road test next Sunday, when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys are going into their bye week, and will have to find a way to regroup after being dominated and embarrassed at home.
