We caught up with Arizona Cardinals fourth round draft pick quarterback Logan Thomas at this year’s rookie NFLPA premier. We learned some very interesting things that would give any Cardinals fan good reason to believe that Thomas is one of those guys that just “gets it”.
There are many players that have had troubled past and come into the league and still do fine, others, their past may creep back up and they fall into some situations that would give them a bad reputation.
But as for Thomas, he has values in place that seem to be his guide in life. Gaining strength from Psalms 23, his bible is his most treasured possession, along with a strong relationship with his mom and step-father coming up. These values help build the well spoken and “always with a smile on his face” person you see today.
Character goes along way in life, and for a young man playing the quarterback position where you have to be a leader by example on and mainly off the field, Thomas fits the description.
When asked if there is anything he would want people to know about him that they may not know he replied,
“Well a couple things, most people who know
me know about me as I’m a guy who’s laid back,
relaxed, always has a smile on my face, and people
really just enjoy to be around me just because I’m
that way. I’m not gonna make anybody feel uncomfortable
but when you cross into the football aspect,
that’s when niceness kind of goes out the door”.
Every young quarterback has had an idol they grew up watching that may have inspired them to play the game and in some cases they develop a pattern that would be similar to that player, Thomas grew up idolizing the great Brett Favre.
“The passion Brett Favre held running up
and down the field after he threw a touchdown or a
pick, knowing how his career went, but there will never
be another guy that had the success and then
the failure that that guy had” Said Thomas.
Notice the clear emphasis on the passion for the game that Favre possessed that fascinates him, if there is one thing needed to even start to be called a great player is the passion to play and you can see it written all over his face.
When asked what his motto is, he said “I would say football doesn’t just make me who I am. The things around me make me who I am”
Strong values and Character are already half the battle and his smarts and willingness to learn will take care of the other half, put together the Cardinals and their fans have themselves a great future at the quarterback position.
