The disappointments just continue to mount for the Philadelphia Eagles as they lost a heartbreaker to the Arizona Cardinals 21-17, and gave up over 300 yards to the Cardinals backup quarterback.
The Cardinals improve to 3-6, while the Eagles fell to 3-6 as well, as the trendy preseason Super Bowl pick looks like they are virtually out of playoff contention.
Cardinal John Skelton, filling in for injured Kevin Kolb, completed 21 of 40 for 315 yards, with 3 TDs and 2 INTs. The Cardinals also had 88 yards rushing.
Once again, Philadelphia took a lead into the fourth quarter, as they went up 14-7 at the end of the first half, and entered the fourth quarter with the score unchanged.
Larry Fitzgerald caught a 7-yard TD pass with 9:18 left in the game to tie it up, but the Eagles fought back and took the lead 17-14 on a 36-yard field goal with 5:06 left.
But the Eagles defense wasn’t up to the job as the Cardinals marched down the field in the closing minutes. Early Doucet caught a 5-yard TD pass from John Skelton with 1:53 remaining to seal the victory.
