The game of procedural football continues as both the players and owners try to navigate their way across the goal line. NFL owners are meeting today in Atlanta where they are expected to vote to approve a proposed settlement agreement with the players.
That said, there are a few outstanding deal points that remain such as the payment of $320 million in benefits, worker’s compensation, franchise tags and recertification of the NFLPA as a union. Depending on how those issues are dealt with at today’s owner’s meeting, the team vote may be conditional as well.
Wednesday, NFL Players Association’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors met in Washington D.C. at NFLPA headquarters where they received a status update and reviewed the settlement proposal.
The players gave a conditional vote to move forward with the settlement process while also giving the nod in a “vote of confidence” to the Executive Committee and class counsel to obtain resolution of the open issues.
The Player Association’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors is convening tonight where they will receive another status update and vote on whether to recommend the settlement to the named plaintiffs in Brady vs. NFL.
If both the players, plaintiffs and NFL owners approve a settlement of the outstanding litigation (the antitrust and television case) then the next step would be to have the entire player body vote on reconstituting the NFLPA as a union.
