The Patriots have agreed to send a 2013 5th-round pick to Washington for DL Albert Haynesworth. This move says at least 1 of 3 things: 1) Bill Belichick plans to play a lot of 4-3. 2) Belichick is convinced he can talk Haynesworth into being cool spending part of his time in a 3-4 alignment. 3) The Patriots will adjust his contract and use Haynesworth situationally. Our best guess is that New England will split fairly evenly between 3-4 and 4-3 alignments, using Haynesworth in various ways in each. His primary roles should be 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT, and Haynesworth can excel in any role he wants. IDP folks should continue to find Haynesworth DT-eligible, and he’s well worth a shot to fill a requirement at that position.
