Steve Johnson agrees to 5-year deal with Bills
The Bills have signed WR Stevie Johnson to a 5-year, $36.25 million contract. The deal includes $19.5 million guaranteed. It's slightly less than the $8 million annual salary Johnson was reportedly looking for, but it seems like a fair deal for both sides. Despite some issues with the team's coaching staff and management, Johnson is easily Buffalo's most dynamic pass-catching option. The former 7th-round pick has hauled in 158 balls for 2,077 yards and 17 TDs over the past 2 seasons.
Johnson was clearly happy at the press conference. "First off I want to thank God for everything that he’s put me through, good and bad because it has molded the person I am now," Johnson said.
He also added, "I want to thank Mr. Wilson for taking that chance on me four years ago coming out of Kentucky and using the 224th pick on me." For a 224th pick in the 7th round, Johnson has been a steal by the Bills.
And Johnson is happy to be in Buffalo for years to come. "This is where I started, in Buffalo. They took a chance on me. I’m not doing them any favors. They did me a favor by picking me. I want to remain loyal to them like they did with me because there could have been times where they could have let me go. This group is the only group I’ve known since I’ve been in the NFL. Why leave now when you’ve got guys turning that corner?"
