In the Sunday’s night contest between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals each team was very physical. Both teams needed a win to clinch a spot in the playoffs and they had showcased how much they had wanted it. In the end the Steelers had beaten the Bengals(30-20) and left the Bengals bruised and battered.
One play had altered the course of the game; the Steelers had stopped the Bengals on a third down play and was looking to add to their lead by getting good field position, who would have known what actions was about to take place.
Bengal’s punter Kevin Huber had punted the ball down the middle of the field to Antonio Brown, Brown had caught the punt, juked a few defenders, and took the punt to the house; in the process of the touchdown Huber was injured on a block that would’ve sent chills down your spine.
Huber had to be helped off the field and later on was diagnosed with a cracked jaw and maybe a cracked vertebrae.Huber spoke Wednesday, accepting responsibility for punting down the middle of the field to a dangerous returner in Antonio Brown. The Bengals punter realizes big hits are “a part of the game” and is not expecting an apology from Garvin.
“It’s not an easy thing to watch,” Huber said, via Bengals.com. “It’s not my job to make that decision. He came for a block, he got me blocked, and they scored a touchdown. It worked out for them on that play. It’s too bad it happened. I wish I could be out there playing.”
Steeler’s LB Terrance Garvin was fined 25,000 for the brutal hit on Kevin and will appeal the actions that the league has given him.
Garvin said Wednesday,”the play happened very quickly and didn’t have time to think about it before hitting Huber just below the chin.” Garvin added he plans to speak with Huber at some point and is hoping for Huber’s eventual return.
