Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams was injured and is hospitalized after being stabbed in an apparent robbery attempt early Saturday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Adams’ agent, Eric Metz, told NFL.com three assailants allegedly tried to steal his client’s truck on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Metz said no vital organs were hit, but the stomach injury did require surgery.
Adams is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, but should return in time for training camp in late July.
“We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. “We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery.”
Adams was drafted in the second round (56th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft and was the winner of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, given to the outstanding Steelers rookie. He started six of the 10 games in which he played in 2012.
