Seahawks Name Cortez Kennedy Team Ambassador

The Seattle Seahawks have announced Cortez Kennedy, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and Seahawks Ring of Honor member, as the team ambassador.

“I want to thank Paul Allen, Peter McLoughlin, John Schneider and Pete Carroll for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful organization again. I was so blessed to play my entire career in the great northwest,” said Kennedy. “I look forward to representing the Seahawks in the community and giving back to the 12th Man for the support they have given me all these years.”

In his new role, Kennedy will represent the Seahawks organization in community outreach appearances, as well as support corporate sponsorship, suite sales, and other entertainment events.

“We believe it is important to embrace our past and engage our community,” said President Peter McLoughlin. “Adding Cortez as Seahawks Ambassador accomplishes both. He played his entire career here, represents us in the Hall of Fame, and has a tremendous connection with our fan base – this is a good fit.”

Kennedy is one of three players to have his Seahawks jersey number retired, and ranks among the top-10 in many Seahawks record categories, including: eighth in games played (167), seventh in games started (153), eighth in tackles (668), fourth in sacks (58.0), fourth in sack yardage (390.5), fourth in forced fumbles (13), and second in Pro Bowl nominations (8).

A three-time All-Pro, Kennedy was named the 1992 AP Defensive Player of the Year after setting career-highs in tackles (93) and sacks (14.0) on a team that finished with a 2-14 record. He was the 10th member inducted in to the team’s Ring of Honor on September 17, 2006 and was inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 4, 2012.
