The Seattle Seahawks have acquired special teams veteran Devin Hester. Hester is known to be one of the greatest kick returners in NFL history. He is the third-leading punt returner in NFL history and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2014. He has an NFL-record 20 touchdowns on kick returns.
This season he played for the Baltimore Ravens, but was released in December. He had five fumbles and could not stay healthy with a hamstring injury.
Despite the lingering hamstring injury, the Seahawks made it official that he will be returning kicks for them against the Lions in the Wild card match this week.
Last week against the 49ers, Tyler Lockett was injured for the rest of the game, as well as the season. The Seahawks went to Richard Sherman to return kickoffs, but they did not want to put their star in harm ways. They searched for someone that still had that speed, burst, and someone who can be a difference maker. Hester was that person.
This year the Seahawks improved their special teams by moving from 19th to 13th in the league.
With everything on the line, the Seahawks wanted to make sure that they will have the best chance to pull out a victory over the Lions this week.
