One of the few players remaining from the New England Patriots last Super Bowl Championship team is set to retire. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light is expected to retire.
Light’s retirement reportedly has nothing to do with his ability to play, but that he wants to walk away from the game with his health intact.
Light attended the National Football League’s Broadcast Boot Camp back in 2009, and with NBC and CBS starting their own sports network television stations, there will be a demand for Light.
Light has been the starting left tackle for the New England Patriots since his rookie season in 2001 and has been to three Pro Bowls, as well as being a part of three New England Super Bowl championship teams, after the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons.
With Light’s retirement, there are now only four players left on the Patriots from when they won Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005. They are center Dan Koppen, wide receiver Deion Branch, nose tackle Vince Wilfork and of course quarterback Tom Brady.
