The Green Bay Packers announced on Wednesday that they have reconfigured their front office after Director-Football Operations Reggie McKenzie left to become the Oakland Raiders’ general manager.
To replace McKenzie, the Packers promoted John Dorsey, who is entering his 22nd year in the league and was previously the Packers Director of College Scouting. To replace Dorsey, the Packers promoted Brian Gutekunst from scout of the Southeast region.
The other big announcement from the front office is the promotion of Eliot Wolf to Director of Pro Personnel. The previous three seasons, he has been the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel.
If the Wolf name doesn’t ring a bell, it should. Eliot is the son of former Packers’ General Manager Ron Wolf, who on his hiring in 1991 hired Mike Holmgren to be head coach, traded for quarterback Brett Favre and signed Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White.
Eliot is only 30-years-old and joined the team in 2004, so for him to rise so fast at such a young age means current general manager Ted Thompson holds him in high regard. Also, with Thompson 59-years-old, this sets Wolf up to be his heir.
