Green Bay Packer’s tight end Jermichael Finley has decided to have spinal surgery and hopes of returning on the field. Jermichael was a big part of the Packer’s offense and gave Aaron Rodgers confidence when he needed Finley to make a big play down the field. This recent injury could potentially end Finley’s career in the NFL.
This has been a tough situation for the Packers organization and the players to see one of their own go down with this type of injury. “It was tough, man, seeing that happen,” Packers guard Josh Sitton told ESPN. “Watching him laying on the ground for a little bit and then having to keep playing is tough. We know how dangerous this sport can be, but still, man, when something like that happens, it’s tough to keep playing and not think about it, but we did a good job of just, you know, we kept going and ended up scoring in the drive. But that’s definitely tough.”
Finley’s agent Blake Baratz said the decision to have surgery was made to help the Finley live a healthy life and be able to return to football.”Regarding Jermichael’s specific injury, it is important to note that expert opinions differ across the board, from surgical procedures to rehabilitation methods to returning to contact sports,” Baratz said in a statement. “Working alongside the Packers organization, we have discussed and analyzed all of these opinions, as well as all of the potential scenarios moving forward.”
The surgery does not come with a 100% chance that he will return, but Finley is optimistic that he will resume the game that he loves to play.” My medical treatment to this point has been superb, and the Packers and my agent have been working together to determine how outside medical experts view this injury, how previous cases have been handled and what the next steps of action should be Finley said.”
