Monday Moves in the NFL

The Oakland Raiders placed second-year linebacker Mario Kurn on waivers. Kurn spent the entire 2012 season on injured reserve with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.  Now 22 years old, Kurn is a former standout at the University of San Diego. He played defensive end during his collegiate career, before making the transition to linebacker in the NFL.

Veteran wide receiver Brian Robiskie was released by the Detroit Lions. The team sighted a “non-football injury” as the reason for his release. Robiskie has 43 catches for 485 yards and four touchdowns in his four NFL seasons. He has proven a serviceable target, even starting 11 games for Cleveland in 2010.

The release of Robiskie made room on the Lions’ roster for the team to sign free agent safety Chris Hope. The signing makes perfect sense from a depth perspective, as starting safety Louis Delmas has not be able to get on the field this offseason because of knee problems.  Hope played in all 16 games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, and before that put together some very consistent seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers from 2004-2010.
