League Fines Bills Johnson $10,000

The league has fined Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson $10,000 for his touchdown celebration against the New York Jets, according to the Associated Press.

Johnson caught a touchdown in the Bills 28-24 loss to the Jets on Sunday, after which he drew two “finger pistols” and then pretended to shoot himself in the leg, in a reference to current Jet Plaxico Burress, who served 20 months in prison on a weapons charge after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a nightclub in 2008.

Johnson also made like a flying Jet and then threw himself on the ground at the end of the celebration.  He was flagged for a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct which, combined with a poorly executed squib kick by the Bills, led to the Jets scoring a quick touchdown in the last minute of the first half.

Johnson has since apologized publicly and to Burress.  Burress commented on Monday on ESPN Radio, “I think a day later he’s realized what he did and how he made himself look and embarrassed his team, organization, his players, his coaches, but those are the things you learn and being immature at times.”
