L.A. Group Eyes the Panthers for Relocation

The fans of the Carolina Panthers can now join the paranoia club amid talk that political groups in California are starting to court Panthers owner Jerry Richardson regarding a possible move to Los Angeles.

According to ESPN’s Adam Shefter, if the political figures in Carolina do not want to pony up to help with renovations to Bank of America Stadium, it may pave the way for a possible relocation of the franchise.

Unlike other teams, Jerry Richardson owns the stadium, which means he can move the team without breaking terms of a lease or fear of litigation. But on the other hand, the fact that Richardson does indeed own the stadium it wouldn’t make much sense to leave the stadium behind as it would limit his options for renting it out.

It remains to be seen if Richardson will now leverage the threat of a possible move to Los Angeles to get the locals in line to help pitch in for stadium upgrades.
