Juan Castillo Fired As Defensive Coordinator

98.7 FM’s Mike & Mike in the morning has reported that Eagles Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo has been fired. Todd Bowles, the Eagles secondary coach and former assistant head coach for the Miami Dolphins, will take over the Eagles defensive coordinator position.

Coming into the season, Andy Reid was put on notice by Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie to improve on a disappointing 2011 season, in which the Eagles finished 8-8. One would surmise that time ran out on Castillo’s rain as defensive coordinator and it was time for a change.

Since 2011, the Eagles have given up seven fourth quarter leads, the most in the NFL. Juan Castillo was originally the offensive line coach for the Eagles, and was handpicked by Reid to become the defensive coordinator.  At this point, the Eagles are  2-4 this season, and obviously Reid and Lurie thought a change needed to be made.
