Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s head coach Greg Schiano is on the verge of losing his position with the organization. Tampa Bay is winless and it has created a frustrating season; Josh Freeman was traded, rookie Mike Glennon has had trouble with figuring out the playbook and having timely chemistry with his receivers, and there has been a loss of trust in the locker room.
The locker room is divided and very few people have defended Schaino;”I have high respect for this coach,” said safety Dashon Goldson, the Buccaneers’ defensive captain, per the Tampa Bay Times. “He’s taken a lot of scrutiny off the field. These are tough times. We understand that. He has a job to do, and we do as players. We just try to do the best we can to prepare every week and win a football game. He hasn’t lost the locker room.”
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy echoed Goldson’s Friday words of support for Schiano, according to the Tampa Tribune. However, similar to Revis, McCoy stopped short of endorsing the defensive schemes.”I just run the calls of what I’m told to do,” McCoy said when asked if he agreed with the game plans. “Whether I agree or not, for me.””As long as he’s our coach, we’re going to have respect for him. … We’re going to play as hard as we can,” McCoy said, per the Tampa Bay Times.
Schiano even defended the speculation that he has lost the locker room;”Have I lost the locker room? No. Are they listening? Yes,” Schiano said, responding to speculation of his demise. “Are we getting everything we need out of them? Well, obviously not because we’re 0-7. So there’s different levels to that question.”But, ultimately, we have got good guys in that locker room,” Schiano added. “We got 61 guys in that locker room that I believe in, and I really strongly feel they believe in me.”
