In a game for the lead in the AFC South, Houston Texans’ running back Arian Foster showed that he is still on the form that won him the rushing title last year. Foster scored 3 TDs in leading the Texans over the Titans by a score of 41-7.
Foster not only ran 25 times for 115 yards and 2 TDs, he also caught 5 balls for 119 yards including a 78-yard touchdown. The dominating performance by the 2010 rushing champ was in sharp contrast to the performance of 2009 rushing champion Chris Johnson of the Titans.
Johnson managed only 18 yards on 10 carries for a measly 1.8 yards per carry. The Titans worked to get him the ball in space more by throwing to him 6 times for a total of 27 yards, but a combined 45 yards on 16 touches is still under 3 yards per touch.
Matt Schaub completed 18 of 23 passes for a total of 296 yards and 2 TDs for a QB efficiency of 147.7.
The Texans iced the game in the fourth quarter on an interception returned 38 yards for a TD by Brice McCain, which pushed the lead to 41-7.
Matt Hasselbeck had a sub-par day throwing the ball for the Titans, completing 14 of 30 passes for 104 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs.
The Titans drop to 3-3 and continue to have difficulty running the ball, as their 53 yards rushing today will actually drop the average on their league-worst 66 yards per game. They face the 0-6 Colts next weekend.
The Texans move to 4-3 and take a half-game lead in the AFC South, and host the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars next.
