The search for a new quarterback in Buffalo is underway.
After undergoing an MRI on his right knee, EJ Manuel and the Bills learned that the rookie quarterback has a sprained LCL and will miss a couple of weeks. The injury was sustained during the Bills 37-24 loss to the Browns on Thursday night. The Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer was also injured in the game and is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Once Manuel was injured, undrafted quarterback Jeff Tuel was given the reigns to the Bills offense, and it did not look pretty. When asked if Tuel would start next week against Cincinnati, head coach Doug Marrone replied “Yeah, I would say it’s possible.” That seems to mean the Bills are searching for a veteran quarterback that could come in and start right away. Marrone kept his answer very simple when he was asked if Thad Lewis (currently on the practice squad) would be in the mix or if they are looking outside of the organization, “Outside the organization.”
A potential candidate for the new vacancy at the quarterback position is Josh Freeman. After an ugly separation with head coach Greg Schiano and Tampa Bay, Freeman was released by the Bucs Thursday morning. If the Bills are looking for someone to be able to manage an NFL game successfully, Freeman just might be their man.
